Open Letter to Inquirer: Including Marawi heroes in your awardees is a sort of consuelo de bobo!
With some treating the award as the biggest joke or insult of the year, the Philippine Daily Inquirer's pick for the face behind the Pinoy Ako Blog — which is known to be very critical of the Duterte administration — Jover Laurio, sparked anger among Filipinos especially to those who are supportive of the incumbent president Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Not because they find it unfair for the president, but because it is a slap, a big slap, in the face of the hundreds of Filipinos in and out of the country who are truly deserving of such award, let alone the title.
One of those is Mark Lopez, a staunch Duterte supporter.
In one of his Facebook posts, Lopez wrote an open letter intended for Inquirer.
He questioned the criteria of Inquirer for 'bestowing Jover Laurio' as the Filipino of the Year 2017.
'Can you please explain to us really your criteria for bestowing Jover Laurio as one of your DILAWAN, este FILIPINO of the YEAR for 2017?'.
Referring to the Inquirer's stunt and poor attempt to somehow cover their unbelievable pick for Laurio, Lopez added that including the soldiers who fought to reclaim Marawi from the hands of the terrorists to 'show a semblance of fairness' is a sort of 'consuelo de bobo'.
'It does not help at all that you even tried to show a semblance of fairness by including the heroes of Marawi as a sort of “consuelo de bobo” and to mask the idiocy of your choice'.
He added that the 'only logical explanation' is that they never really live up with their ideology of “Balanced News, Fearless Views” but indicates they are 'a yellow propaganda tool disguised as an independent media'.
'The only logical explanation that can be deduced from your decision is that you never really subscribe to your tenet of “Balanced News, Fearless Views” but that you are simply a yellow propaganda tool disguised as an independent media'.

Because today, you published a news item which shows the overwhelming mandate of President Duterte, as indicated by the latest polls.
Seriously, I am trying to understand the crystal clear disconnect of your choice (as well as your nominees) with whom the majority of the actual citizens believe should be hailed as the Filipino of the Year.
It does not help at all that you even tried to show a semblance of fairness by including the heroes of Marawi as a sort of “consuelo de bobo” and to mask the idiocy of your choice.
The only logical explanation that can be deduced from your decision is that you never really subscribe to your tenet of “Balanced News, Fearless Views” but that you are simply a yellow propaganda tool disguised as an independent media.
Or perhaps, your editorial choice is simply a way to appease your discredited management whom are now exposed as big time tax evaders and land grabbers.
At any rate, you have completely lost it PDI...
Time for your re invention...
