MANILA, Philippines — The mayor of Narra town in Palawan has been sentenced to a maximum of 140 years in prison after finding her guilty of graft for favoring a company owned by her daughter for the purchase of P93,521 worth of office supplies.
The Sandiganbayan Special 3rd Division has sentenced Lucena Demaala in connection with 14 cases involving the unlawful transaction of supplies amounting to P93,512. She faces at least 6 years and 1 month or at most 10 years per case.The court finds Cabando’s claim incredible,” the court said in its resolution penned by Sandiganbayan presiding justice and 3rd division chair Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, with the concurrence of associate justices Bernelito Fernandez and Sarah Jane Fernandez.
During her testimony, Cabando admitted that Demaala was her mother and that all 14 sales invoices were issued in the name of ADB with her name as the proprietor.
“The court finds Cabando’s claim incredible,” the court said in its resolution penned by Sandiganbayan presiding justice and 3rd division chair Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, with the concurrence of associate justices Bernelito Fernandez and Sarah Jane Fernandez.
